sharm el sheikh holidays

Many Egypt holidays understandably focus on the historical attractions within this ancient land, like the iconic pyramids and the Sphinx. However, modern Egypt also has much to offer, particularly for the more adventurous sort of holiday maker. The city of Sharm El Sheikh on the Sinai Peninsula is home to some great examples of the modern attractions that you can enjoy on Egypt holidays.

The access that Sharm El Sheikh affords to the warm waters of the Red Sea has created an international reputation for the city as a centre of world class scuba diving. Pristine coral reefs and an abundance of fish, turtles and endangered mammals are on display in the reliably clear waters of the Red Sea. For the accomplished scuba diver, notable spots like Yolanda Reef and Shark Reef provide excellent drift diving opportunities, as well as many fine wrecks to explore. The established scuba diving scene in Sharm El Sheikh means that the uninitiated can learn the basics of scuba diving while on holiday, although for best value for money you may wish to seek basic tuition at home to ensure that you can make the most of your time when you arrive at the shores of the Red Sea.

The rapid development of Sharm El Sheikh in the last few decades was one of the factors that lead to the creation of Ras Muhammad National park in 1983. This Park protects both land and sea around the Sinai Peninsula, from the outward growth of Sharm El Sheikh, and also from the damaging effects of such practices such as dynamite fishing, which previously devastated the coral reefs. In a way a by product of tourist demand for accommodation and fish, the Ras Muhammad National park now provides an excellent unspoilt area in which to enjoy the full range of water sports. In addition to scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming, the Ras Muhammad National park is popular with devotees of kite surfing, wind surfing and parasailing.

Keen golfers can enjoy the championship golf course in the Jolie Ville Golf Resort, just 5km away from the main hotel area of Sharm El Sheikh. In fact, the Golf fanatic can spend an entire holiday staying at the resort, but the course is also open to non-resident visitors. Back in Sharm El Sheikh you'll find the full range of facilities that you might expect of an established family holiday resort, with swimming pools and amusement parks offering activities for children not yet ready for swimming in the open sea. As with all Egypt holidays, it perhaps goes without saying that the weather is uniformly hot, and so plenty of protection from the sun is required at all times to avoid sun burn and heat stroke.
